Seems to be a pattern emerging here.
Stuck on a last four letter word – yet again.
Any thoughts – anyone – on 26d?
I have not done much work on this. Too much to do after my holiday in Lightning Ridge.
Richard, say the clue word by word slowly and you may get the first letter. The rest falls into place. Let me know if this is working for you. It fits with my 30 across, and should be just a minor challenge for you.
Love 24a David. but I cannot yet parse 25d. Perhaps overnight! That corner is finished if I have the correct word.
And I have just woken up to 29a – very sneaky. The list of good clues goes on!
New words for my vocabulary at 9a, 11a, 2d, and 6d. For 6d I had never given any thought to what the residents of this place might be called. For 11a I had to resort to the clue hints
Richard, it appears you have the 4 letter words. Can you help with 14a. I have ?E?? I think the last letter may be R. That would fit my 15d, but I cannot parse that as yet. Is a songwriter an author?
If a crash is a loud noise I can now parse 25d .
Still a long way to go.
I had to resort to David’s hints to
Oops, wrong button. Last sentence should read
I had to resort to David’s hints for 4d. I was ale o substitute, and get the answer.
Arthur agree with new words. Vocabulary never stops expanding.
Was aware of 11a. Must have run across it in a previous life……….
Think you may be of the – mark – with 15d.
I’m sure that will lead you to………. fish – down river literally. Definition will then fit.
14a – NOW I’ve got it! down river indeed!
That changed 15d which helped to complete the sw corner.
The parsing of 17d eluded me for a little while, but I love it now. A bit AC/DC.
AS an ex-banker 13d should have jumped out at me, although I seldom got involved in these transactions.
Hard to choose between so many contenders, but I think 27a is my choice for the gold logie this week.
Richard, like you I enjoy the to and fro of the forum. It certainly helps me, and I love to share my cryptic experiences with people who understand.
David, again I salute you. Verrry challenging, but still doable.
Any clues with 13d please? I cannot think of an answer.
Got it! Good clue.
13d was my last in. I was about to give up for the day when I caught the break and the lights started flashing. The first bit is quite a common term these days.
Still pondering 26d Arthur, but have been unfocussed.
It will come – always does.
Think I will give up on Pick of The Week & just go – All of The Above.
Terrific yet again David.
Did deal with 13d in a previous life. Great clue. Was just – There.
Think of alternate meanings for the first part of the clue.
In this case you have to get your brain working. Normally it is your body they want. There is usually a couple of XXXX at the end.
When you have got it you will say OH! No! how could I miss that.

Think my mouse is being a bit ratty.
If 26d is bees and 5d is pest then I am stumped as to why I can’t get a solve.
Michael
I have the same words.
Are you having trouble parsing the words you have?
Part of 1a could be the prize, but it is also part of the name of the tournament.
30a is an old means of transport. The end of the word is a bit passe. I think modern youngsters including Olympic swimmers people say “sick”
And Greg, I had to go to my friend Google to check that they were actually words.
Late this week. Busy Saturday morning. By last one in was also 26d, Arthur’s tip helped me out (read the first three words of the clue in isolation). New words for me 9a and 2d. Faves 24a and 4d.
Went back through all the clues. Only answers that I can’t fully parse are barbarian for 6d and bosom for 25d – the hint that “language is about-face” is eluding me but the answer seems solid as I can’t even think of another word that would fit.
6d, the definition is a the other end, and these people live in a desireable location subject to typhoons a lot closer to you than to me. It is a charade and your second r is incorrect. My second post in this week’s forum refers.
25d I could not follow the clue hint. However when you read comic books, you will often see the container when they are describing a noise. then squash is at the front and put it in the middle. A little olde worlde.
Mike I think “the language is about face” says that the container indicator is ahead of the container when generally it is the other way around. What else can you expect from antipodeans – from the land down under!
I would love to see a sickster.
How about
naughty – one……….spotted in……..public house with an…
Had never considered what these islanders would be called either.
Saving myself for Whiskey-o-Clock – Arthur…………
Works for me.
Both the clue and the time
Arthur
I’m with you on 30a although here in LA you rarely see sicksters sporting those hats they all like to wear so there’s still some life in the older term.
Arthur like everyone else it seems, & after thorough re-evaluation yet again
I’m going with a “BUZZ” for 26d.
There will be plenty of the working type required after this weeks dreadful events.
Don’t forget the XXXX afterwards. You must always reward hard work.
