    Another enjoyable cerebral workout today.
Made heavy going of 13d, 21d & 23a for some reason.
    Most enjoyed 12a, 15a & 6d.
    Loved “mountain-climbing gear” in 6d!
    Thanks, David

  2. Steve Ball says:

I managed this one without any ‘cheating’. I loved “mountain-climbing gear”, too. Very inventive.

    Thanks David.

  3. Alistair Mcgregor says:

Excellent work out. My particular favourite was 22 across.
    keep up the good work

  4. Greg C says:

Ha ! 24 hours later I finally get “mountain climbing gear”. Super stuff.

  5. Arthur Maynard says:

Seems we are all taken with “mountain climbing gear”. Oh what a beauty!
I was in fine mood, so I found this puzzle very comfortable, but still had plenty of challenge.
20d was my last in, as I was using the wrong element.
Like Alistair I thought 22a was a gem
    Other likes were 1a, 10a, 23a, 13d, and 24d (a nice short one)
28a reminded me of the variety of ways David manages to clue familiar words.
Several of these solutions were dredged up from my forgettory, where they were quietly rusting away through lack of use.

  6. Richard Sternes says:

Yes thoroughly enjoyed All the abovementioned.
Special mention for Major trickery at play 23a & 16d
“sounds like” Clues which turned out to be anything but.

  7. Patrick Lewis says:

A good solid workout. Thanks David.

  8. Greg Mansell says:

I’ll belatedly add my out-of-tune voice to the chorus of appreciation for “mountain-climbing gear” and “in a manner of speaking” (x 2).
Bring on #271 – whenever that might be.
