    Stickler weekly no. 38 — is clue 28 across correct? or should it read Check soldier once.

    In 27ac, is ‘taking’ enough for ‘having inside’, or is ‘in’ doing double duty ?

      Yes, I think “taking” does the job by itself.

      Chambers lists “take” as:

      “to lay hold of; to get into one’s possession; to seize, catch, capture; to captivate;”

      Take drugs, take medicine etc.

      Double duty is a poor compiler’s tool.
